Meet our ambassadors

Chelsea Johnson

Chelsea is an ambassador for Aphasia Forward.

She lives in Alaska.

Her story:

I am a Nurse Practitioner, military retiree, stroke survivor and advocate for people living with aphasia.

On August 22, 2022, my life changed when I experienced a stroke that left me with aphasia. Although aphasia has made communication more challenging, I continue to move forward with courage, determination and gratitude.

I retired from the military on November 28, 2024, after a life of service. Today, I continue serving others by volunteering. I volunteer with babies, holding and caring for them, and I also volunteer at a veterans hospital two days a week.

I am grateful for the opportunity to give back, help others, and use my experience to encourage people living with aphasia. My journey has taught me that even when life changes, our purpose, voice and ability to make a difference can continue.

“I am moving aphasia forward—one day, one word, and one person at a time.” ❤️
