Meet our ambassadors
Eric Jackson
Eric is an ambassador for Aphasia Forward.
He lives in New York.
His story:
At 45 (March 2013) I was watching college basketball and upon exiting my bathroom I started throwing up. I really didn't know what was happening. I went to bed and it wasn't until the next morning I realized I had no balance and speech was horrible. My doctor at the ER said that I had a stroke, and I had no reaction.
I immediately started physical and speech therapy My insurance ran out so I did my own therapy walking and reading anything out loud. Day by day everything got better. A lot of hard work and persistence 13 years later my balance strength and talking ability is good
I now like to attend stroke groups and Facebook groups in person and Zoom. It's an enjoyable experience and I like learning from other people that have been through rehab and will continue their journey. I prioritize my health more than ever now. I live in Schenectady, New York, for the past 15 years.
